Johor, Malaysia – EDM Global Tech Sdn Bhd has successfully completed the installation and commissioning of approximately 200 Automatic Identification System (AIS) Class B units on barter trade vessels operating in Malaysian waters over a one-year period.
The large-scale deployment was undertaken to improve vessel visibility, navigational safety, and regulatory compliance for vessels engaged in regional barter trade activities, particularly along key maritime routes in the Straits of Malacca, the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.
The AIS installations enable real-time vessel identification, tracking, and monitoring by maritime authorities, Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), port operators, and nearby vessels. By enhancing situational awareness at sea, the project contributes to safer navigation, collision avoidance, and more effective maritime domain awareness.
Throughout the implementation period, EDM Global Tech provided comprehensive services including vessel surveys, equipment supply, installation, programming, testing, commissioning, and signal verification. Each installation was tailored to meet the operational requirements of individual vessels while ensuring compliance with international maritime communication standards.
The project involved the deployment of AIS transponders, GPS positioning systems, VHF antennas, power conversion systems, and associated integration services. Following installation, all units underwent rigorous operational testing to verify transmission performance and successful detection by shore-based monitoring systems.
