EDM Global Tech Completes AIS Installation for Cold Lay-Up Vessel in Sungai Johor

EDM Global Tech Sdn Bhd has successfully completed the installation and commissioning of an Automatic Identification System (AIS) onboard the cold lay-up cargo vessel TORMAN II, located in Sungai Johor near Pasir Gudang. The project was undertaken to enhance vessel visibility, monitoring, and navigational safety while the vessel remains in a non-operational lay-up condition.

The installation included a complete AIS solution comprising a Camino 108 Class B AIS Transponder, dedicated GPS antenna, VHF antenna, and DC-DC power converter integrated with the vessel's existing electrical system. The AIS was configured with the vessel's identity information, including MMSI number 538008702 and vessel particulars, enabling real-time tracking and identification by shore-based monitoring systems.

As part of the commissioning process, EDM Global Tech conducted comprehensive operational testing, including AIS programming verification, signal transmission checks, reception performance tests, and shore station confirmation.

Cold lay-up vessels are often anchored or moored for extended periods, making continuous identification and situational awareness essential for port authorities, vessel owners, and maritime regulators. The installation ensures that TORMAN II remains visible to nearby traffic and shore monitoring systems, contributing to safer navigation and improved maritime domain awareness within the Sungai Johor area.

The project was completed by EDM Global Tech's technical team in Pasir Gudang and demonstrates the company's expertise in maritime communication systems, vessel tracking technologies, and navigation safety solutions.
